UZC Collaborates with EcoBrew to Launch Recycled Packaging Line for Craft Beverages

UZC has partnered with EcoBrew, a small-batch beverage startup specializing in organic kombucha, to design a line of 100% biodegradable packaging. The project, led by material scientist Dr. Lena Hartmann, introduces a unique algae-based film that decomposes within 30 days without leaving microplastics. Each can features hand-drawn illustrations by Berlin-based artist Anika Vogt, celebrating local brewing traditions in EcoBrew’s European markets.

The collaboration addresses EcoBrew’s challenge of scaling sustainably while maintaining artisanal appeal. UZC’s team in Hamburg optimized the packaging’s structural integrity using computational modeling, ensuring it withstands transportation stresses. A QR code embedded on each can links to a mini-documentary about the brewers behind each flavor, enhancing consumer engagement.

EcoBrew’s founder, Tomas Keller, remarked: “Lena’s material innovation lets us stay true to our zero-waste ethos without compromising shelf life. Anika’s artwork turns every can into a conversation starter.” The line will debut in 25 zero-waste stores across Scandinavia and Germany, with profits funding river cleanup initiatives.
