UZC has teamed up with TerraBloom, a social enterprise preserving indigenous weaving practices in South America, to create a line of ethically woven home textiles. The collection, curated by textile designer Marco Chen, incorporates ancient Mapuche patterns from Chile into modern modular rugs and throw pillows. Each piece uses organic cotton and natural dyes, with a QR code detailing the artisans’ stories.
Chen’s innovation lies in laser-cutting techniques that replicate hand-weaving textures while reducing production waste by 40%. UZC’s team in Santiago collaborated with TerraBloom’s weavers to digitize traditional motifs, ensuring cultural authenticity. The launch event in Santiago featured live demonstrations of weaving techniques, attracting eco-conscious consumers.
TerraBloom’s director, Sofia Ramirez, said: “Marco’s designs bridge generations. Younger buyers appreciate the tech integration, while elders see their heritage alive.” The collection is sold via UZC’s online platform, with a “Buy One, Teach One” program funding weaving workshops in underserved communities.
