UZC Partners with TerraMould to Revive Traditional Pottery Techniques in Functional Ceramics

UZC has teamed up with TerraMould, a ceramic studio preserving Indigenous Mexican hand-building methods, to create a line of ergonomic kitchenware inspired by pre-Columbian shapes. The collection, curated by industrial designer Marco Chen, merges ancestral coiling techniques with modern ergonomics, using locally sourced clay infused with natural antibacterial minerals.

Chen’s innovation lies in laser-engraving traditional symbols onto surfaces without compromising structural integrity, allowing each piece to tell a cultural story. UZC’s Mexico City team developed a low-temperature firing process that preserves TerraMould’s signature earthy textures while reducing energy consumption by 30%. The launch event included live demonstrations of pottery-making, bridging ancient craft with contemporary dining trends.

TerraMould’s director, Elena Ramirez, stated: “Marco’s designs honor our heritage while making it relevant for modern kitchens. The firing technique alone has revived interest in our craft among younger artisans.” The line is sold via UZC’s artisanal marketplace, with a “Learn with Makers” program offering virtual workshops on traditional techniques.
