UZC has partnered with GreenCycle Apparel, a micro-startup specializing in upcycled sportswear, to create a line of eco-conscious activewear made entirely from discarded textiles. The collection, designed by textile engineer Priya Kapoor, transforms post-industrial fabric scraps into high-performance leggings and jackets using a patented 3D weaving technique that minimizes waste. Each garment features QR codes detailing the material’s origin story, linking buyers to the factories and artisans involved in its creation.
The collaboration addresses GreenCycle’s challenge of scaling production while maintaining circularity. UZC’s team in Lisbon optimized the fabric’s durability through computational stress-testing, extending product lifespans by 40%. A standout feature is the “PatchPrint” design—dynamic graphics printed with soy-based inks that evolve over time as the garment ages, reflecting the wearer’s lifestyle. The line debuted at Lisbon Fashion Week’s sustainability pavilion, with proceeds funding textile recycling initiatives in Portugal’s underserved communities.
GreenCycle founder Sofia Mendes remarked: “Priya’s tech turns trash into treasure. These pieces prove sustainability can be both functional and beautiful.”
