Italian architect Luca Marini transformed Milan's Biblioteca Sormani into an "Acoustic Archive," installing directional sound domes that broadcast curated audio narratives within reading zones. The system uses AI-generated voice modulation to narrate books in 12 languages while maintaining library silence.
Marini's design combines acoustic metamaterial panels with motion-sensitive light rings that glow brighter as readers gather. Each dome contains a tactile map of global literary traditions, with Braille annotations linking to audio archives. The library reported 35% higher youth engagement since installation, with students citing "immersive storytelling" as their favorite feature.
"This redefines how we experience knowledge," Marini stated. His concept is being adapted for Oslo's new Munch Museum, where soundscapes will contextualize Edvard Munch's paintings through era-specific ambient noise.
